3-Day Hands-On Workshop on Design of Experiments (DoE)

This workshop introduces participants to the principles and practical application of Design of Experiments, enabling them to plan efficient experiments, analyze data statistically, and draw meaningful conclusions. The program combines theory, lab execution, data analysis, and presentation skills.

Day 1: DoE Fundamentals & Experimental Planning

Concepts Covered

  • Introduction to Design of Experiments and its advantages

  • Factors, levels, responses, and experimental error

  • Full factorial vs fractional factorial designs

Hands-On Activities

  • Identification of key factors and levels

  • Selection of response variables

  • Construction of an experiment matrix

  • Randomization and replication concepts

Skills Gained

  • Structured experimental planning

  • Efficient resource utilization

  • Avoidance of trial-and-error experimentation

Day 2: Experimental Execution & Data Collection

Concepts Covered

  • Importance of controlled experimentation

  • Data integrity and repeatability

Hands-On Experiment

  • Conduct a small laboratory experiment

    • Example: Enzyme activity vs temperature and pH

  • Execution of runs as per DoE matrix

  • Accurate data recording and tabulation

Learning Outcome

  • Translating experimental design into real lab execution

  • Understanding variability in biological systems

Day 3: Data Analysis, Visualization & Inference

Concepts Covered

  • Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) basics

  • Main effects and interaction effects

  • Model adequacy and interpretation

Hands-On Data Analysis

  • ANOVA analysis of experimental data

  • Visualization of

    • Main effects plots

    • Interaction plots

  • Drawing statistical inferences

Outcome & Assessment

  • Interpretation of optimized conditions

  • Preparation of conclusions and recommendations

  • Mini presentation of findings by participants

Workshop Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Design statistically sound experiments

  • Identify critical factors and interactions

  • Analyze experimental data using ANOVA

  • Visualize and interpret experimental results

  • Present findings with confidence

Who Can Attend

  • Life science, biotechnology & biomedical students

  • Research scholars and laboratory professionals

  • Quality, R&D, and process optimization teams

  • Anyone interested in data-driven experimentation
